Teen Philanthropy and Other Programs

Teen philanthropy programs give students a real-life opportunity to give away thousands of dollars to make our world a better place. Participants learn how to make the most of that responsibility by assessing needs, evaluating grant applications, advocating among their peers for their preferred recipients, and making community presentations.

Teen Philanthropy Curriculum

The critical thinking, collaboration, and leadership skills teens gain serve them – and their communities – well through the high school and college years, and beyond.  Curriculum includes:

  • What is a non-profit agency?
  • What is a mission statement?
  • What are my values?
  • Maimonides’ Ladder of Charity
  • Making presentations
  • Establishing decision-making criteria
  • Assessing and comparing grant allocations
  • Evaluating applicant impact and efficiency

Join us to making the world a better place! To participate during the 2018-19 season, for more information and to get involved, SIGN UP for the mailing list to be the first to get updates and criteria and guidelines for applying.

Israel Teen Summit

High school students often find themselves unsure what to make of Israel and the conflicting messages about Israel that flood their classrooms and social media. The 2018 Teen Summit on Israel is an opportunity to experience Israel for themselves – with their peers, in a way that's fun, and without the plane ticket.

With immersion into Israeli food, music, sports, arts, technology and innovation, along with Israel advocacy and virtually experiencing a day in the life of an Israeli teenager, the Israel Teen Summit will wrap up with a Tel Aviv-style party planned by our Israeli Shin Shinim – our teen ambassadors from Israel, Maya and Dana. The day promises to be enlightening, energizing, and most of all fun.

Sponsored by The Jewish Week Media Group, the two-year program teaches students about Israel through the eyes of respected journalists with a wide range of views about Israel and its modern-day conflicts. Participants gain greater awareness of the pro- and anti-Israel environment, as well as enhanced confidence in speaking about Israel with professors, friends, and detractors.

Scholarships for Teen Travel to Israel

Young people who participate in immersive Jewish experiences tend to have stronger Jewish identity and communal involvement as adults. That is why the Federation invests in Israel travel for teens.

Those traveling during the summer may apply for the Federation's Anne and Herbert Goldstein Fund $1,000 competitive scholarship. Through this fund, the Goldsteins' legacy of love for Israel continues to provide teens with the opportunity to further connect with their heritage, deepen pride in their Jewish identity, and strengthen bonds with Israel.
